Barbara Stanwyck brings spunky attitude to the role of real-life sharpshooter Annie Oakley in director George Stevens's biopic. As a performer in Buffalo Bill's (Moroni Olsen) Wild West Show, Annie enters a turbulent romance with fellow gunslinger Toby Walker (Preston Foster). Chief Thunderbird co-stars as Annie's friend Sitting Bull, with Melvyn Douglas as Annie's manager, Jeff Hogarth, who has a crush on his comely client.
