Obsessed with the topic of famous women who committed suicide, French writer Anna (Hanna Schygulla) stumbles across the case of Mexican writer Antonieta Rivas Mercado (Isabelle Adjani), who took her own life in 1931 inside Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral. Told in part through flashback, this melancholy drama from director Carlos Saura blends the story lines of two disparate women whose destinies are inexplicably intertwined.
