Ararat
(2002)|
Director Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter) takes on the mass killing of the Armenian people by the Ottoman Turks during World War I, something that Turkey continues to refuse to classify as genocide. Chronicling the life of an Armenian-American artist named Gorky who survived the slaughter, the film takes pains to equate the actions of the Turks with Rwanda, Bosnia and the Holocaust -- and that denying this fact is a terrible stain on humanity.
