Longtime low-level mobster Lou (Burt Lancaster) is fading and past his prime -- much like the decaying city in which he lives. He meets and falls for a sexy casino employee named Sally (Susan Sarandon), who needs his help -- and Lou surprises himself by rising to the occasion. Director Louis Malle's richly textured, atmospheric drama was nominated for multiple Oscars and earned numerous critics' awards.
