Set in the Galicia region of Poland on the eve of World War I, this cerebral drama centers on a group of Jewish refugees who hide at a remote lodge to escape the invading Cossack army. Forced to abandon their village during a pogrom, the terrified Jews find safe haven in a country inn run by wise old Tag (Franciszek Pieczka). As the gravity of their situation sets in, the refugees open up and share their deepest hopes and fears.
