Madan (Dev Anand) is an out-of-work cabbie with a genius for gambling. Desperate to earn money, Madan innocently agrees to work for a shadowy underworld don at the Star Hotel, which fronts for a seedy casino. There, he meets a doctor named Rajni (Kalpana Kartik), and the two fall in love. But in an unexpected plot twist, Madan is framed for murder and condemned to hanging, and the only person who can save him is his rival for Rajni's hand.
