In a fleabag hotel in Alabama, a hooker (Sally Field) -- who's just been evicted from her apartment but nonetheless exhibits plenty of joie de vivre -- is picked up by an equally cheerful drifter (Tommy Lee Jones), and the two team up for some improbable adventures. Dreaming of California, the pair make their way through the rural South for a road trip like no other. David Keith and M. Emmet Walsh co-star. Martin Ritt directs.
