In this King Vidor-directed gem from the silent era, 1920s matinee idol John Gilbert plays a swashbuckling French courtier in the time of King Louis XIII who sets out to win the heart of the lovely Roxalanne de Lavedan (Eleanor Boardman). A 19-year-old John Wayne also plays a minor role (marking his second movie appearance) in this action-filled romantic drama based on the novel by Rafael Sabatini.
