Beethoven: Fidelio

Leonard Bernstein leads the Vienna State Opera Choir and Orchestra in this 1978 rendition of Beethoven's only opera. When Spanish noble and convicted political prisoner Florestan (René Kollo) faces certain death, his wife (Gundula Janowitz) tries to save him by impersonating a prison guard named Fidelio. Joseph Sonnleithner provides the German libretto, and Manfred Jungwirth and Hans Sotin round out the cast.
