Mathias Clausen (Hans Albers), the elderly head of a wealthy family, feels he has little to live for until he meets and falls in love with pretty young Inken Peters (Annemarie Düringer) in this Golden Globe-winning German film. As their romance blooms, Mathias enjoys a new lease on life -- till he finally gathers the courage to face the family members who've been waiting for him to die so they can collect their inheritances.
