When Auggie Rose (Kim Coates) gets murdered on his first day out of prison, insurance salesman John Nolan (Jeff Goldblum) abandons his predictable life to assume the dead man's identity. As John fades deeper into Auggie's consciousness -- even arranging to see a woman (Anne Heche) the convict corresponded with but never met -- it becomes more difficult for John to keep his secret life from live-in girlfriend Carol (Nancy Travis).
