Birth of the Blues / Blue Skies: Double Feature
(1941)|
Bing Crosby shines in two tuneful musicals from the 1940s, starring opposite Mary Martin in Birth of the Blues, and vying with Fred Astaire for the affection of Joan Caulfield in Blue Skies. Birth of the Blues tells the story (taking a few liberties) of how jazz was born. Blue Skies follows a romantic love triangle set to a score by Irvin Berlin, featuring the classic tunes "Puttin' on the Ritz" and "White Christmas."
