Stage and screen superstar Gregory Hines makes his directorial debut with this provocative drama that centers on the ill-fated romance between white liberal tutor Lonny Baum (Mark Evan Jacobs) and Denise Shepherd (Karen Kirkland), a young black student. Elliott Gould, Melina Kanakaredes and Diane Kagan also star in this poignant tale about race relations, bigotry and the blind optimism of love.
