When a man of the cloth is shot to death on the street, pressure mounts on District Attorney Henry Harvey (Dana Andrews) to put drifter John Waldron (Arthur Kennedy) on trial for the killing. But further investigation soon leads Harvey to doubt the defendant's guilt. Director Elia Kazan's riveting crime drama is based on a real-life Connecticut murder case. Watch for playwright Arthur Miller in the police lineup.
