Left on her own after the death of her father during the Depression, young Bertha Thompson (Barbara Hershey) hooks up with a union organizer (David Carradine) and a con man (Barry Primus). Together, they quickly become train robbers on the lam. One of the first films from director Martin Scorsese, this Bonnie and Clyde-style drama was inspired by Sister of the Road, the autobiography of the real-life Boxcar Bertha Thompson.
