When Mario's father (Beau Bridges) cancels their camping trip at the last minute and sends him to San Francisco to spend the summer with his aunt and annoying cousin, Mario (Chauncey Leopardi) is crushed. Much to his surprise, however, he makes friends with a group of local kids. To keep the kids out of trouble, the neighborhood priest suggests they play sports, so the ragtag bunch forms a basketball team and learns about friendship and teamwork.
