Franco Brusati's uproarious comedy stars Nino Manfredi as an Italian expatriate who lives and works in Switzerland, taking on an endless string of menial jobs in hopes that he can one day afford to send for his wife and children. But his plans are altered when his work permit gets revoked -- and he refuses to return home, choosing instead to sneak back into the country and live with a beautiful recluse (Anna Karina).
