Tough New York City cop Johnny Blake (Edward G. Robinson) gets tossed off the force for punching out his boss. Delighted, mob kingpin Al Kruger (Barton MacLane) -- despite the suspicions of his chief goon, Bugs (Humphrey Bogart) -- adds Blake to the payroll. Has he really changed sides, or is Blake a plant sent to infiltrate MacLane's rackets? William Keighley (The Master of Ballantrae) directs this first-rate crime drama.
