During one investigation, Cadfael finds a suspicious dead body at the site of a recent execution that was ordered by the king. With the local sheriff by his side, he uncovers data that soon carves out the identity of the murderer. Originally airing on television, this first installment of the mysteries based on a novel by Ellis Peters follows a cleric who solves murders in 12th century Shrewsbury Abbey.
