Unable to adjust to his dull border patrol assignment after fighting in World War I, fierce French warrior Capt. Conan (Philippe Torreton) leads his men on unauthorized raids in the Balkan Mountains, which results in accidental deaths and the group facing court martial. This powerful antiwar drama earned Bertrand Tavernier a César Award for Best Director and lead actor Torreton a César for Best Actor.
