Helen Mirren stars as Alma Rattenbury, a British woman in her mid-30s who's married to a much older man, but is in love with her 18-year-old chauffeur, George Bowman. The film is based on a real-life scandal that began when Alma "discovered" her husband brutally beaten with a blunt object and took him to the hospital, where he soon died. Afterward, Alma confessed to the murder as a crime of passion.
