Ray Macklin (Jeff Daniels) has never spent much time thinking about his mortality -- that is, until his best friend dies in the middle of telling a joke. Suddenly, Ray's become a hypochondriac, flitting from one doctor to the next trying to find a cure for his imaginary illnesses. He's so crazed that everyone else is beginning to think perhaps he ought to just die and get it over with. Maybe then, he'll start acting normal again!
