A young woman (Melissa Gilbert) becomes pregnant. Not ready to be a mother, she thinks about having an abortion without telling her boyfriend, but her 60-year-old father (George C. Scott) finds out and makes it clear he's strongly opposed to the idea. He's forced to rethink his beliefs, however, when his younger second wife (Jacqueline Bissett) becomes pregnant as well, despite the fact that he'd told her he didn't want more children.
