Petty thief Bhola (Shashi Kapoor) accidentally hits the big time when he steals an unpublished manuscript and sells it to an unscrupulous book distributor. But when it becomes a best seller, Bhola faces unexpected scrutiny that leads him to a family secret. The young criminal soon discovers a surprising connection to a powerful gangster who's just been released from prison and the dogged police detective who sent him there.
