Based on the 18th-century novel by Samuel Richardson, this Masterpiece Theatre production centers on the rakish Robert Lovelace (Sean Bean) and the object of his desire, Clarissa Harlowe (Saskia Wickham), a woman whose virtue rivals her wealth as her surest asset. Determined to lure the virginal Clarissa into his bed -- and away from her family's plans to betroth her to another -- Lovelace relies on charm, good looks and Machiavellian plotting.
