Barbara Stanwyck stars as world-weary Mae Doyle, who's forced to return to her small fishing village when her big-city dreams fade to black. She soon attracts the attention of two men: affable dullard Jerry (Paul Douglas) and his slick, ambitious buddy, Earl (Robert Ryan). Mae weds Jerry and tries to be the happy homemaker but finds herself gravitating toward Earl in this slice-of-life melodrama directed by Fritz Lang.
