Shy, retiring physics professor Alvah Jasper (Gary Cooper) enjoys his quiet Midwestern existence. But when government agents induce him into helping them stymie the Nazis' efforts to attain atomic secrets, his life turns upside down. Jasper journeys to Switzerland to contact a renowned scientist who has the scoop on the German atomic technology, but she turns up missing. Directed by Fritz Lang, this classic drama lives up to its title.
