Mexican auteur Arturo Ripstein uses an upcoming carnival as the framing device to illuminate the delicate balance of life in a bordello for an odd assortment of society's outcasts in this dark comedy starring Patricia Reyes Spíndola. As the brothel's regulars and residents -- including artists, poets, soldiers, prostitutes and more -- select their garb for the upcoming celebration, a stranger enters their midst and chaos ensues.
