When Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy) returns to Boston from Los Angeles to resume her career in the coroner's office, she reunites with her ex-cop father, Max (Ken Howard), and uses unorthodox but effective methods to solve baffling crimes. Jordan's most pressing case is the murder of her mother, and she's aided by her gruff boss (Miguel Ferrer) and her on-again, off-again love interest, Detective Woody Hoyt (Jerry O'Connell).
