Damnation
(1988)|
As the heartbroken Karrer (Miklós Székely B.) obsesses over memories of his former lover, he grows increasingly certain that his life -- now marked by solitude and despair -- has no meaning in this haunting film noir from director Bela Tarr. Notable for its stark black-and-white style, the film was supposedly one of philosopher Susan Sontag's favorite movies and helped confirm Tarr's status as a master of Hungarian cinema.
