Mike Newell directs this gritty thriller, based on a true story, about the last woman to be executed in England -- brothel hostess and former prostitute Ruth Ellis (Miranda Richardson). When she meets the wealthy and enigmatic David Blakely (Rupert Everett), a poisonous romance leads to a life not of happiness, but one of violence and despair. A public house becomes the scene of Ellis's brutal crime, which is punished by hanging.
