When Australian lawman Ray Lorkin (Bryan Brown) discovers an aborigine prisoner dead in his lock-up, members of the local tribe seek justice and revenge. Lorkin respects the ways of the aborigines, even allowing them to stage a violent ceremony of vengeance. But when another curious death occurs, the outback cop believes this one's a murder, and he soon finds himself entangled in a web of mystery.
