When she learns that her affair with the Echlin brothers has resulted in a pregnancy, Sarah Gilmartin (Saskia Reeves) rebels against conformity and refuses to reveal who the father is, opting to raise the child on her own terms. Based on Sam Hanna Bell's acclaimed novel, director Thaddeus O'Sullivan's period drama also stars Ciarán Hinds as Frank Echlin and Donal McCann as his brother and rival, Hamilton.
