Demon Pond

A man who's been wandering the countryside in search of his best friend finally finds him in a remote Japanese village, only to discover that a mystical curse is holding the town hostage. Apparently, if his friend abandons his role in an important ritual that's keeping everyone safe, the captive demons in a nearby pond will escape. Takashi Miike directs this foreign-language fantasy based on the play by Kyoka Izumi.
