Dharmatma
(1935)|
During a prayer meeting at his house, Marathi poet Eknath (Bal Gandharva) allows lower-caste citizens to eat before the Brahmins -- much to the objections of the dastardly Mahant (Chandra Mohan), who helps to brand Eknath as a pariah. This stirring biopic of the 16th-century saint and defender of India's so-called "untouchable" caste also stars K. Narayan Kale as Eknath's son, Hari Pandit, and Master Chhotu as Shrikhandya.
