While on tour in America, novelist Charles Dickens (Roy Dotrice) -- who would become one of the most famous writers in history -- looks back on his humble beginnings as the son of an alcoholic in this biographical 13-part "Masterpiece Theatre" miniseries. The author of classics such as A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations and David Copperfield, Dickens recalls his youth and the love of his life through flashbacks and passages from his works.
