After endearing herself to surgeon Sushil Verma (Raaj Kumar), young nurse Karuna (Meena Kumari) finds herself falling for him -- and the feeling is mutual, but complications ensue when Sushil is persuaded to wed longtime family friend Kusum (Nadira). As Sushil increasingly neglects his new bride, his inattention causes friction in the Verma household, and the angry Kusum moves out. Will her departure open the door for Sushil and Karuna?
