Director Sai Paranjape's sprawling tale about the East Indian experience interweaves the story of two families from the same village struggling to improve their impoverished lives. Drawn by the promise of opportunity, two best friends leave their village for Bombay and are quickly overwhelmed by the big city. Shabana Azmi, Nana Patekar, Raghuvir Yadav, Om Puri and Nilu Phule all turn in great performances.
