This fascinating dramatization of the life of Benjamin Disraeli stars George Arliss, who collected an Academy Award as Best Actor for his superb portrayal of the British writer turned wily politician. After a liberal adversary stops Disraeli's attempt to buy the Suez Canal from Egypt in 1874, the prime minister hatches a scheme to keep the Russians from beating the Brits to it. But his plan hits a snag when his financial source comes a cropper.
