Despite an inauspicious meeting at a party, Ray Reardon (James Spader), a recently divorced architect, wins over and quickly marries Lena (Madchen Amick), a radiantly mysterious and alluring woman. One child later, it slowly dawns on Ray that he doesn't know much about Lena at all. Their life seems almost too perfect, and Ray begins to wonder exactly what kind of woman he married and what type of life he's agreed to lead.
