In 1950s Johannesburg, ambitious young journalist Henry Nxumalo (Taye Diggs) is committed to following through on his groundbreaking project: Drum, a publication devoted to issues of importance to blacks. His job is made even more challenging considering apartheid is rife in the country and fast encroaching on Sophiatown, the last bastion of liberalism. The more Henry is determined to make a difference, the deeper he dives into danger.
