Having survived the smallpox scare that caused the hospital lockdown in the previous season's finale, Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) and Nurse Lockhart (Maura Tierney) are now lovers in the ninth season of this popular medical drama. As usual, the psychodrama threatens to overshadow the professional drama as Dr. Chen (Ming-Na) reveals she once gave up a child for adoption; two African-American staffers (Sharif Atkins, Mekhi Phifer) become murder suspects; and more.
