In 1956, the book series Ed McBain's 87th Precinct was brought to the screen, paving the way for gritty TV cop shows such as "NYPD Blue" and "Homicide." This version retells the stories that made the original show a critical hit. In "Heatwave," NYPD detective Steve Carella (Dale Midkiff) and the 87th Precinct unit are hot on the trail of a serial rapist who assaulted a female cop.
