Ranno (Hema Malini) suffers under the abuse of her nagging mother-in-law and alcoholic husband (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). When her husband is killed, Raano is instructed by the village council to marry her brother-in-law Mangal (Rishi Kapoor), whom she has practically raised as a son. Ranno accepts the ruling for the sake of her children, but her sacrifices soon exact a hefty personal toll. The drama is based on a novel by Rajinder Singh Bedi.
