Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, this film beautifully captures the rare friendship that blossoms between two married women, Lena Weber (Isabelle Huppert) and Madeleine (Miou-Miou), living in WWII France, 1942. They attempt to defy the social rules of their time in order to escape their unfulfilling lives. Written and directed by Diane Kurys, who was inspired by her parents' relationship and the woman who came between them.
