In Nazi-occupied Rome, Esperia (Giovanna Ralli) reluctantly takes in three fugitive Allied POWs -- British Maj. Pemberton (Leo Genn), Soviet Sgt. Fyodor (Sergei Bondarchuk) and United States pilot Bradley (Peter Baldwin) -- at the peril of her Communist lover, Renato (Renato Salvatori). Tensions simmer as the soldiers begin to fight over their beautiful captor in this little-seen wartime melodrama from ace Italian director Roberto Rossellini.
