After their leading man dies while leaping from a moving train, a film's cast and crew continue their work with a revised script that writes him out. Meanwhile, the star's wife and mistress team up in an effort to discover what happened to him. Director Andrzej Wajda was inspired to write this poignant drama by the untimely accidental death of a frequent collaborator, renowned Polish actor Zbigniew Cybulski.
