In his film debut, Ethan Hawke stars as 14-year-old Ben Crandall, a misfit and science whizz who dreams, with best friend Wolfgang (River Phoenix), of space travel and manages to create an interplanetary spacecraft in a homemade laboratory. It isn't long before the two pals are zooming off to another galaxy, where they find that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Joe Dante directs.
