Based on events in director Khalid Mohamed's life, Fiza is the story of a girl (Karisma Kapoor) whose brother disappeared during Mumbai's horrifying 1993 riots. Left with only each other, the girl and her widowed mother (Jaya Bachchan) hope each day that the boy will return. It's 1999, and six years have passed with Fiza and her mother living with constant uncertainty. Fiza tires of waiting for her brother to come home and sets out to find him.
