After sultry carnival dancer Lane Bellamy (Joan Crawford) is stranded in a small Southern town, she becomes romantically involved with two local political figures (Zachary Scott and David Brian). But corrupt town sheriff Titus Semple (Sidney Greenstreet) has it in for Lane and vows to drive her out of town. Michael Curtiz directed this classic drama, which co-stars Gladys George and Virginia Huston.
